May 30, 2007, marks the debut of the Texas Tech University Libraries 3D Animation Lab. The Lab is an extension of the Digital Media Studio (DMS) and is located on the Second Floor across from the DMS, in Room 205. Although still under construction with remodeling changes, the Lab opens its doors at the end of May.

"Our Library is a collection of services," remarks Dr. Dyal, Dean of the Texas Tech University Libraries. "Books, digital materials, and the Digital Media Studio are among the services we offer. We are expanding our services to include the 3D Animation Lab."

The 3D Animation Lab is open to all users with an eRaider account. The Lab can be used by all ranges of skills from beginner to advanced. The rich collection of software, tools, training and tutorials, textures and models lets users work at their own pace in exploring and developing 3D projects.

animation projects using industry-standard equipment and
software at Texas Tech, and at no cost.

Your TTU Library has become the very first library that we know
of to install a fully-functional 3D animation studio equipped with
the same software used by the major animation studios.

The facility, located on the Library's second floor, features
Poser, a scenery and human modeling program; Vue Infinite, a
scenery, landscape and animation tool often used for final
production of an animated feature such as Disney’s “Pirates of
the Caribbean; Maya, a leader in the gaming industry, and
trueSpace, made popular for its award-winning modeling,
surfacing and rendering capabilities.

What's more, visitors will enjoy an array of practical tutorials,
tools, models, and textures to help them learn from the ground
up or increase their skills.

Eight user workstations and an instructor workstation are
configured with dual-processor, dual-core Intel Macintosh
machines with four gigabytes of RAM and 30-inch high-
resolution color monitors.
